Short Walks Dartmoor North

A collection of 15 short walks exploring the northern half of Dartmoor, including Okehampton and Chagford. Each walk comes with easy-to-read 1:25K Ordnance Survey maps, clear route description and lots of images, plus information on places of interest and refreshment stops.

Wild, and at times an isolated upland area, Dartmoor National Park is a land of grass moors dotted with fascinating tors, tumbling streams crossed by old stone clapper bridges, and a diverse range of wildlife. Our ancestors have left behind a fascinating treasure trove, from intriguing stone rows to ancient stones circles and from medieval wayside crosses to old mine-workings. But there’s also pretty villages and hamlets that are home to interesting old churches and cosy pubs.

The weather may be inclement at times, low cloud and mist can obscure the views and the high rainfall leads to numerous bogs and mires, but this climate also brings with it fascinating woodlands clothed in moss and lichen like some enchanted land.
