Westcity is a marketing suite for an exclusive apartment complex which
is part of the Paddington basin redevelopment. A temporary building
with an expected lifespan of 18 months it is situated on Praed Street
and looking out onto the Edgeware Road. The concept was that the front
of the building was to be the main attractor, thus the open feel. Another
part of the brief was to extend the daily life of the suite by engaging
visitors in the evening. This was achieved via moving rota-graphics,
a central projection screen and lighting shifts.
The three concept visuals (1,2 & 3) show this along
with the first proposal sketches (4 & 5). Sketch (6)
was the single story final approach when all budgets were rationalised.
However it retains the visible front elevation (7) and answers
the brief on all levels.
